I was browsing through my picture folder and realized that I have never posted the pix from our trip to Steam Boat Rock last year. To get a sense of where it is go here.

It was my first camping trip ever, and I gotta say it was very enjoyable. The drive there was very nice; about maybe 3-4 hours from Redmond. The weather ended up being one of the nicest days, though I think in eastern WA the weather is nice more often than the western part. Once their, the camp site was impressive. We had a spot reserved, but there are some first come first serve spots too by the water you can grab. The campsite is pretty much a patch of man made trees in the middle of desert like place, and oh yeah its by a huge lake. If you are a fan of civilized camping this place is for you. They have showers, bathrooms, stores and if all of that wasnt enough, they spray for bugs every day so you can enjoy a nice and bug bite free trip. There is alot of water activities to do also, if you are into that sort of things, I sure am not. But if you have kayak or canoe you can launch it and go for a ride (or whatever it is called when you go on water) and even make trips to the little near by islands.
Once we got settled and unpacked, we started hiking up Steamboat rock itself. The hike is about 2 mile (ish) and 800 feet of elevation gain. The terrain is kind of rough and gets rocky quickly. Strongly recommend wear good shoes, boots if you got em. Once you get on top its pretty much flat as a soccer field and you can pretty much roam from one end to the other just by walking around. Bring water with you because it can get pretty hot up there.
There is more info on the whole area and some of the other people’s experiences on WTA.ORG (Steamboat Rock).
